As a vet of 14+ years, I have worked with tons of animals that have made great pets. However, when it’s time to say goodbye to them, we have the burden of choosing their final moments which can be an emotional and devastating time.
To be sure your pet’s last days are as special as possible, you will need the advice and support of a skilled professional with the ability to provide necessary veterinary treatment as well as offering the sympathetic attention you need at this sad time.
Unrushed Discussion
Through email, the gentle euthanasia process will be clearly explained, and your questions will be answered. We will discuss quality of life and how well your pet lives in their environment, mobility, eating, toilet habit and how happy they are generally.
Pre-Sedation – Drifting into Calm Sleep
I will come to your home at a time convenient and where your pet is the most comfortable. When you are ready, I administer a gentle sedative in such a way that your pet will barely notice. This is not a distressing or painful process; your pet simply drifts into a peaceful sleep.
Pass Away Gently and Peacefully
The next stage will be to give your pet an anaesthetic that causes their heart to slow and then gently stop. They pass away peacefully. This process is very gentle, humane and generally a calmer and more tranquil one than can be delivered at a clinic.
Aftercare
It is entirely your decision what happens next. The most common is for me to take your pet to the crematorium, where they can be cremated individually and I deliver the ashes back to you, if desired. I take the stress away of this daunting process, allowing you to mourn and grieve over the loss of your pet.
